Soft Research

Once again, the "Big~Softee" Microsoft has provided free tools for educators.

The latest offerings are geared toward simplifying the research process by incorporating calculation and collaboration functions into Microsoft Word 2007.

“Technology that effectively addresses the increasing need to integrate the research life cycle and provide a holistic, end-to-end perspective has the potential to revolutionize the way academics collect data, publish findings, and preserve information,” said Daniel Pollock, vice president and lead analyst at Outsell Inc.

Big Soft-ee

Christmas comes in March for students worldwide as Microsoft corp. announces it is giving away a host of powerful software applications including:

Visual Studio Professional Edition
Expression Studio
XNA Game Studio 2.0
SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
Windows Server Standard Edition
Silverlight

The Catch? None really...you must be enrolled as a college student. It will also be offered to High School students in the fall.

The Skinny? This is not a Bill & Melinda philanthropic endeavor. It is a strategic move to ensure the next generation of Web 2.0 innovations are borne into the Microsoft family.
