Digital Fix - Part I

The Digital Fix: Realizing Returns on Technological Investment

Nearly 2 million years ago, homo-erectus discovered fire, stood beside it, and felt warm. Then, in 1879, Thomas Edison invented the light bulb bringing humankind out of darkness and 50 years later, the introduction of television provided a world of entertainment. Today people exist in the information age where according to the United States Department of Education, by 2001 our public schools housed more than 10 million computers (Hernandez-Ramos, 2005). However, despite the proliferation of technology in the classroom, public school leaders can still be found standing beside these mysterious digital boxes feeling cold, bored, and in the dark.
